<p>The reason jumping rope is so excellent as a core tool, is because you can get the best of all workouts.  You can incorporate aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise and high intensity interval training or HIIT all in 15 minutes!  And you&#8217;ll reap the rewards of super fast fitness!</p>

<p>So lets just take a look at each type of exercise, see how it benefits you and how you can integrate it into your routine.</p>
<p><strong>Aerobic Exercise &#8211; </strong>I think everyone know about aerobic exercise &#8212; it has to do with oxygen and plenty of it. Most aerobic exercises are done at about 60% to 80% of your maximum heart rate.  If you don&#8217;t know your maximum heart rate you can find out <strong><a id="gll:" title="here." href="http://www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/hr.shtml">here.</a></strong></p>
<p>Typically, aerobic exercises get your heart rate up to your goal, then keep it there for 20 to 30 minutes before going into a cool down routine. Exercises such as jogging, swimming, biking and rowing are good aerobic exercises.</p>
<p>These types of exercises build <span id="more-101"></span>endurance and strengthen the heart muscles, but are not necessarily used for building strong muscles.  The metabolism involved in burning calories is usually limited to the length of the workout.</p>
<p><strong>Anaerobic Exercise </strong>- Since aerobic exercises are all about oxygen, you would think anaerobic is without oxygen &#8212; you&#8217;d be almost right! When you think of heavy weight lifters, when they are lifting they will often hold their breath to make just one lift.  Their bodies are working at their MAXIMUM rate for just a short while.</p>
<p>Weight-lifting, wind sprints and other high intensity exercises are all anaerobic. These exercises build muscle mass, bone density, and they burn caolories long after the workout is over. Muscles at rest continue to burn more calorise &#8211; which is why it is so healthy to have a fit body.</p>
<p><strong>High Intensity Interval Training</strong></p>
<p>Combines the highly intense portion of the anaerobic exercise with the aerobic benefits for a super-charged, kick-butt routine guaranteed to burn the fat and build the muscle.</p>
<p>By jumping at your personal maximum level for just a few seconds &#8212; lets say thirty &#8212; then follow that with a recovery period of anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds, then another interval of high intensity followed by a recovery period, you will build strong bones, strong muscles, endurance, speed, coordination and super fitness.</p>

<p>Here it is only mid October and I&#8217;m already thinking about Christmas, but you know it is just around the corner!  In fact as I write this article it is only 70 days away! Many of us are just now getting ready for Halloween, then we&#8217;ll start thinking of Thanksgiving, then Christmas. That is the point!  There are lots of high-fat, load-calorie holidays between now and Christmas.</p>
<p>If you start right now, with only 10 to 15 minutes, for to five times a week &#8212; you can be FIT BY CHRISTMAS! In fact, if you start now, you&#8217;ll see amazing results even before Thanksgiving!</p>
<p>Experts agree that the very best way to get lean is through high intensity, interval training &#8212; or HIIT.  Jumping rope is such a great way to work HIIT into any exercise regimen &#8212; its fun and easy to do.  The high intensity part of HIIT involves <span id="more-93"></span>really working as hard as you can for a very short period of time &#8212; as little as 30 seconds as much as only 90 seconds. These are bursts of speed and intensity.</p>
<p>The interval training means you have a high intensity interval followed by a lower intensity interval &#8211; you never completely stop, but you slow down to let your heart rate recover, then you go back to you highly intense workout!</p>
<p>Studies prove that short spurts of high intensity, followed by recovery intervals can amp up your routine to burn calories faster than any other single method.  You will be absolutely amazed with these results.</p>
<p>So what do you do if you haven&#8217;t completely mastered the rope to get your intervals as intense as you need them to be?  There are a couple of methods people use.  First you can take the handles of the rope into one hand and swing the rope super fast while jumping &#8211; you&#8217;re not actually jumping rope at this point &#8212; you are acting &#8220;as if&#8221; you&#8217;re jumping.  Then during the slower interval &#8212; actually jump rope at a slower rate.  This will accomplish two things: 1.) You&#8217;ll be able to perform the recovery interval &#8212; again only 30 to 60 seconds and 2.) You&#8217;ll begin to get better and better at actually jumping rope.</p>
<p>The second method you could use, it to try the <a href="http://www.jumpropeworkoutfun.com/brp" target="_blank">ropeless</a> jump rope.  It really is great for HIIT because you never miss!  And the on board computer that comes with many models helps you to keep track of your stats.</p>

<p>Many middle aged men and women in American today are struggling   with the common problem of belly fat.  Wrong food, lack of physical activity and mis-information is most likely to blame for developing this heart threatening fat. Experts agree, that along with a healthy diet, cardiovascular workouts are the absolutely best way to lose belly fat.</p>
<p>There are many ways to get the cardio workout in, so there is no lack of exercises to choose from, but a jump rope workout, has been proven to burn calories and therefore fat, faster than all the others.  Because most people are stressed for time, it makes sense to <span id="more-43"></span>choose your workout where you can get the most fat-burning in the least amount of time.</p>
<p>Some people I&#8217;ve talked with say that a jump rope routine is not for them because its too hard and requires a lot of coordination.  And to that I would say, it does take some level of coordination.  But there are a couple of options.</p>
<p>First, its always best to start any new workout routine slowly.  You don&#8217;t expect to jump like a professional boxer in the first week.  It is easy to work out slowly.  You can start with a rope with the handles in both hands.  Jump and swing the rope at the same time to mimic the actual rhythm of jumping.  Start trying to time the snap of the rope on the ground with your jump.  This approach lets you get a feel for jumping before you actually can get your feet tangled in the rope. You can gradually build up to the point where you are confident about being successful with the routine.</p>
<p>If that still has you intimidated, couple of innovative companies I know have developed a jump rope-like device that is perfect for people who want the super-calorie-burning benefits of jump rope fitness, but either don&#8217;t have the coordination, or can&#8217;t stand the high-impact of jumping. These devices even have a built in computer that monitors your heart rate, the number of actual &#8220;jumps&#8221;, the calories burned, and the length of the workout.</p>
<p>The on-board computer is built right into the handle &#8212; which can b weighted &#8212; adding that much more umph to your workout.</p>
<p>The other thing about a jump rope workout routine is that it is completely portable.  You can take your &#8220;gear&#8221; with you where ever you go and keep yourself on a regular routine.</p>

<p>Jumping rope may not seem like a stealth fat fighter, but think again.  You can get a blast of fat-burning energy from a simple jump rope workout.  By just following some very simple steps you will be amazed at how fast fat melts away.</p>
<p>1.  Get a good rope that fits your size.  When you step on it with both feet in the center, the handles should come to your armpits.  If it is too long, adjust it.  If it is too short, you&#8217;ll likely get tangled in it &#8212; opt for a new rope.<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-82" title="Jump_Rope_Girl" src="http://www.jumpropeworkoutfun.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Jump_Rope_Girl1-200x300.jpg" alt="Jump_Rope_Girl" width="167" height="250" /></p>
<p>2. Find a shock-absorbent surface on which to jump&#8211; it can either be indoors or out, but avoid jumping on concrete if possible, as you&#8217;ll likely get leg pains.</p>
<p>3. Have a good sturdy pair of shoes &#8212; cross-trainers are best as they cushion your feet better than running shoes.</p>
<p>4.  Have access to a watch with a second hand or better yet a timer so you can time your intervals.</p>
<p>5.  It might help to have a DVD to follow along with, but if not, have some snappy music to jump to.</p>
<p>6.  If at first, you find it difficult to jump in time to the music or sustain your jumping for extended periods of time, just practice without the jump rope for a bit. Then get back into the rope and in no time<span id="more-35"></span>, you&#8217;ll have it down pat.</p>
<p><strong>GETTING STARTED&#8211; The Warm-</strong>Up</p>
<p>Experts agree is very important to warm your muscles at a gradual pace so that you avoid injury.  It also allows your heart rate to climb slowly.</p>
<p>You can start by just marching in place &#8212; remember to get your arms involved in the warm-up.  As you get warmer begin either increasing the pace of your march or lifting your knees to increase your heart rate and get the blood flowing through the muscles.</p>
<p>Once you are breathing a bit heavily &#8212; you are warmed up and ready to go!</p>
<p><strong>The ACTUAL WORKOUT</strong></p>
<p>Professional atheletes know there is nothing better then interval training to start burning fat. So for the best jump rope workout interval training is essential.  For those who might not know, inteveral training is high intensity workouts (like wind sprints), followed by lower intensity work, then back to high, then low, then high.  Rinse and repeat as they say!</p>
<p>The interval that is right for you will be based on your personal fitness level right now.  If you can start with 30 seconds of speed jumping followed by 30 seconds of slow jumping &#8211; that&#8217;s great!  If you can start with three minutes of speed jumping followed by 1 minute of lower intensity working, that&#8217;s excellent.  Where ever you are is good. Just start there and improve!</p>
<p>The jumping technique itself does not need to be elaborate &#8212; if you can just jump off the ground high enough for the rope to pass under your feet, that&#8217;s fine.  As you get better, you can begin to do more complex moves. You will want to vary your jump rope workout to keep it fresh! You can try jumping front to back, or side to side, or high knees.  Play with it &#8212; it will keep you challenged and keep your workouts fun!</p>
<p><strong>FINALLY &#8211; The Cool Down</strong></p>
<p>After 15 minutes, this high intensity workout will have elevated your heart rate significantly.  It is now time to cool it down. Do that by slowing your routine, in fact this is best done without the rope at all.  Just go back to marching &#8212; fast at first then slower until your heart rate is about normal.</p>
<p>Once you&#8217;ve cooled down it is important to stretch your quads, hamstrings and glutes.  This is especially important so you don&#8217;t get sore muscles the next day.</p>
<p>So there you have it. Remember to keep at it. At first a <em>jump rope workout </em>may seem difficult and you may trip over the rope or hit yourself in the head. Don&#8217;t get discouraged. In a few weeks you will be jumping like a pro!</div>
